Good afternoon and Happy Easter:

Deliscar Professional Corporation remains committed to our clients’ health and safety in light of the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus), while continuing to provide legal and language services to our clients. In light of the steps taken by the Government of Canada, the Province of Ontario, the City of Guelph and the City of Brampton, as well as the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario, and the Ontario Court of Justice, the following changes to our operations are effective immediately until further notice:

  1. Family Litigation and Civil Litigation Matters

As of today, both the Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Justice continue to suspend regular operations by adjourning all current matters until further notice/for 8 to 12 weeks, respectively, and will only be hearing urgent matters that fall within specific narrow categories, as well as some routine matters that also fall within very narrow parameters. The respective courthouses are in the process of setting new dates for matters that have already been filed with the court.

Please see the following links for more details:

Ontario Court of Justice: https://www.ontariocourts.ca/ocj/covid-19/

Matters that are or were to be set for mediation or any other kind of out-of-court settlement will continue to be processed and sent for client review by email. Any documents requiring original signatures will be signed using virtual witnessing.

  1. Mail

Both of our office buildings in Brampton and Guelph have been locked, and reception services are no longer being offered. If you have any documents that need to be delivered in hard copy format, please mail them to the Brampton office. Please note that Canada Post is no longer guaranteeing delivery standards, and we suggest that all documents be sent by courier if you must use mail. E-mail and fax are always welcome. Any mail that will be sent to you will be sent by courier as well.

  1. Wills & Powers of Attorney

Intake meetings for Wills & Powers of Attorney continue to be conducted by phone or by Skype. On April 7, 2020, the Ministry of the Attorney-General made an unprecedented order allowing for the virtual witnessing of wills and powers of attorney using videoconferencing.
A copy of this order can be found here: https://www.oba.org/CBAMediaLibrary/cba_on/pdf/Virtual-Witnessing-Emergency-Order-Filed.pdf?utm_source=LYR&utm_medium=EM&utm_campaign=mindful%20moment

We will be in touch with those who still need to execute the Wills & Powers of Attorney that we have prepared. If you have already executed your documents prior to the closure of the office, they are valid and your originals are on their way to you by courier.

  1. Free “Ask the Lawyer Day”  Webinars

Deliscar Professional Corporation has been offering free in-person “Ask the Lawyer Days” to many different organizations for a number of years. In light of the current physical distancing requirements, we will be offering these sessions virtually on topics such as “Wills & Powers of Attorney in Ontario”, “Children with Special Needs, Taxes and the Law”, and  “Family Law in Ontario”.  Dates will be set shortly and registration is free via the following link: https://suzannedeliscar.ca/presentations/ask-the-lawyer-program/

  1. Notarizations

We provide our notarial services through Downtown Notary, which is offering virtual commissioning during COVID-19. Please see
http://www.downtown-notary.ca/virtual-commissioning to book your
virtual commissioning appointment. Downtown Notary will not be taking in-person appointments until further notice.

  1. Translations

It has been our ongoing policy to mail our notarized, certified Spanish and French translations to our clients, and this will continue to be the standard.

  1. Going Forward

We continue to offer all services on a virtual basis. For further information regarding federal and provincial relief programs, handwashing techniques and physical distancing, as well as other important health information, please consult the Government of Canada and Government of Ontario’s dedicated COVID-19 (coronavirus) websites at:

Our thoughts and prayers are with those who are suffering from this illness, who have loved ones who are ill or who have succumbed to this illness, or who have had their employment or business negatively affected. I remain available primarily by email. Teleconferences will also be scheduled as necessary. We also continue to take on new clients.

We will provide more updates once further information is provided by the appropriate agency. We appreciate your patience in this unprecedented situation, which requires the profession to implement new procedures on sometimes a daily basis.

Sincerely,

Suzanne Deliscar
