Defeat of bilingual judge bill ‘disappointing’

The debate around whether Supreme Court judges ought to speak both official languages highlights the need for Canada to continue striving to become a fully bilingual country and the need for more public discourse on why this hasn’t yet become a reality, says Orangeville lawyer-linguist Suzanne Deliscar.

“I think there needs to be a discussion as to why it’s so challenging for us as a bilingual country to actually have bilingualism at all levels,” she tells AdvocateDaily.com. “I think that’s a huge problem and there needs to be discussion about why it is that way.”
